Everton's Andre Gomes is not likely to move to Benfica this summer.

The central midfielder is available for transfer at the Goodison Park club, but only for the correct price.

The executive editor of Portugal's Record sports daily, David Novo, suggests a Benfica move for Gomes is unlikely at present.

Gomes was at the Portuguese giants between 2012 and 2015.

He told the ECHO: "Of course in theory a return to Portugal might be something that could work out for him in terms of being a regular option for a big team in a championship he knows.

"We've seen the rumours about Benfica but that looks like something that could be difficult to make happen they have a lot of options in midfield.

"They've got Julian Weigl, have just signed Joao Mario, there's Adel Taarabt who played in the Premier League for Tottenham and Florentino, a player who progressed from their youth system.

"There are other midfielders, some they are trying to sell, but it's difficult to find space in the Benfica squad for Andre Gomes."

He added: "Of course he has quality, he's a really good player, but I don't think a return to Portugal can be a reality this season.

"Maybe there's a market for him in other countries.

"Like every footballer, he needs to play and he also needs to choose well when it comes to the next chapter of his career because I think he needs a really good season to gain some regular football to show his quality and be able to return to the national team.

"He was a European champion with Portugal but that was five years ago now.

"He's also had that serious injury but he's still young and needs to show what he can do and if that's not possible at Everton I believe he can still play for another team in one of Europe's big five leagues."
