Moyes said: "You will always get cynics who wonder about his United past but I think he would probably say he feels as much at home here, if not more so, than he ever did at Old Trafford. I remember going to sign him and thinking he was exactly the right player and right type of person for this club. We needed someone I felt could lift the level of professionalism, someone from a club used to winning.
"There were a lot of teams in for him at the time but I think Phil wanted Everton as much as we wanted him. He wanted to be part of something that would take his career on to another phase."
There was even praise for Neville from a defeated Sir Alex Ferguson, who said: "Phil has proved what a fantastic person he is and to take a penalty in those circumstances was excellent. He is one of the special people in the game and I hope he picks up that cup next month because no one deserves it more."
