Everton are keeping the door open to Wayne Rooney for a return from DC United.
The Liverpool Echo says Rooney will begin working towards his coaching qualifications while at DC United – a move which could eventually bring him back to Everton.
Rooney has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal and will officially become a DC United player on July 10 when the secondary MLS transfer window opens.
He has been given the No9 shirt and is expected to make his debut on July 14.
Rooney wants to move into coaching after his playing days are over and is to start working towards his coaching licences during his stay in the US capital.
