Everton happy to play contract waiting game with Pienaar

Everton are convinced Steven Pienaar will eventually pen his new contract.

The Sunday Mirror says the South Africa midfielder starred at the World Cup and is a firm favourite at Goodison. But with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, Pienaar, 28, has yet to commit his future to the club. Tottenham are monitoring Pienaar's contract negotiations - which have stalled so far.

But Everton hope Jack Rodwell and Mikel Arteta's decision to pen new deals will convince him to stay.

More talks are planned and even if David Moyes cannot secure a deal for Pienaar - who can speak to other clubs without permission in January - by the end of August, he is ready to bide his time.
