Everton great Tim Cahill is being linked with the Fleetwood Town job.

Fleetwood sacked manager Joey Barton last week.

The Fleetwood Weekly News reports that Cahill, who has not held a senior coaching position so far, tops the betting along with caretaker boss Simon Wiles, who has been promoted from the club's academy in the interim.

The fact Barton secured the head coach's role at Highbury despite a lack of experience can be a source of encouragement to 41-year-old Cahill.

Cahill, who also played for Millwall and Australia, has also emulated Barton with his punditry work, though his much more reserved approach may suit the new direction that Town chairman Andy Pilley wants to go in.
