Everton great Cahill scores again as Australia edge Saudi Arabia

Australia have defeated Saudi Arabia 3-2 in an international friendly in London on Monday night.

The Socceroos were well-served by all-time leading scorer Tim Cahill who opened the scoring in just the third minute at Craven Cottage, the home of Fulham FC.

The Everton legend, now starring with MLS side York Red Bulls, bundled the ball over the line after Tommy Oar had played the ball into the box following a move which was started by Cahill.

Ange Postecoglou's side then found themselves two goals ahead after six minutes when Crystal Palace captain and national team skipper Mile Jedinak rose unmarked to head home Josh Brillante's free-kick.

It looked as though it could be an Australian whitewash but the Saudi Arabians hit back just under 20 minutes from time when Hassan Muath Fallatah converted form the penalty spot after Socceroos keeper Mitch Langerak had brought down Mukhtar Fallatah in the area.

Preston North End's Bailey Wright then scored his first international goal in the 77th minute when Saudi Arabia failed to clear a set piece to give the Aussies a 3-1 lead before they endured a nervy end after Taisir Al Jassim netted with six minutes remaining.

In the end, however, Australia managed to snap a five-game losing streak to return to the winners' list after seven matches without a victory dating back to November last year when they beat Costa Rica 1-0.
