Everton flyover banner calls for Kenwright resignation

Everton fans are calling on chairman Bill Kenwright to resign.

Supporters made their feelings about the club's chairman clear prior to the game against Aston Villa, with a plane trailing a banner with a message reading '22 YEARS OF FAILURE BILL @ TIME2GOBILL' flying above Goodison Park just before kick off.

Kenwright, a former Coronation Street actor, has been on the Everton board since 1989 and bought a 68 percent stake in the club in 1999.

In the 22 years since, however, the closest Everton have come to winning a first trophy since 1995 was losing the 2009 FA Cup to Chelsea.

Kenwright held onto this chairman role after billionaire Farhad Moshiri bought the club in 2014, but success has remained frustratingly elusive despite Everton spending over £500 million on transfers in the past five years.

Today's clash with Aston Villa is the first since Rafa Benitez was sacked.
