Everton face spending restrictions when January transfer window opens

Premier League side Everton are not in a position to spend big in January as they are falling foul of the league's profit and sustainability rules.

The Merseyside club were hoping to strengthen manager Rafa Benitez's squad, after a summer window where they only paid a transfer fee for Demarai Gray.

According to Football Insider, the situation is not going to change in January.

The club's recruitment chief Marcel Brands and manager Benitez will have to wheel and deal through loans and free transfers to change up the squad.

Everton have losses of over £265 million in a three financial year period.

Premier League rules allow £105 million losses during such a time, even though the figures were relaxed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
