Everton are showing significant interest in Ron Vlaar.

The Dutch defender is out of contract after finishing up at Aston Villa at the end of last season but is yet to find a new club.

The Daily Mail claims that the Toffees are keen on Vlaar, who is currently training with former club AZ Alkmaar, as long as he can prove his fitness following recent knee surgery.

Roberto Martinez has lost Phil Jagielka until Christmas and is hoping to lure 31-time Holland international Vlaar to Goodison Park in a bid to ease the pain of the captain's absence.
