Everton defender Holgate: What Lampard has told the players...

Everton defender Mason Holgate says he's excited to be playing for manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard kicked-off his reign with a hard-fought 4-1 FA Cup victory over Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Lampard was cheered by Blues supporters from the moment he watched his players warm-up before they sang his name during and after the game at Goodison Park.

“People around my age know exactly who he is," Holgate said following the game when asked about his new boss.

“When I was big enough to start watching football, the boss was always one of the best players and one you wanted to watch all the way through.

“With people like him and Ashley (Cole), when they come in you are a little bit in awe of them, really.

“He is a younger manager who is not out of the changing room too long so he comes in with a lot of new ideas in his coaching and what he has been doing is really enjoyable, to be fair.

“We have gone out and showed the confidence and the quality that we have got and it is something that the boss said.

“He told us he believed in the quality of the squad and we showed we have got that in us (with this result). But we have got to keep working on what we are going to do."
