Everton defender Holgate: There's no hiding place here now

Everton defender Mason Holgate admits their season hasn't been good enough after defeat at home to Wolves.

Conor Coady's header early in the second-half earned the Midlands club a 1-0 victory at Goodison Park and the table has become grim reading for Everton supporters.

When asked about the relegation battle ahead, Holgate conceded a squad of their quality should be 'nowhere near' the bottom of the standings.

"Nobody wants to get relegated no matter what club you're at or what the history is," he told Sky Sports after the defeat.

"If you look at the squad we've got we shouldn't be anywhere near here. There's no hiding that but we are and we have to deal with it.

"It is what it is. There's no hiding place. There's nothing we can do about it. We've got to dig deep. As a performance if we look at it is was a lot better than Monday night.

"I thought we showed spirit and fight but ultimately when you are down there you have to pick up points. We're disappointed but we have to start winning games. If we don't start winning games we have to start not losing games."
