Everton are being linked with Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Tuttosport says Everton could make a surprise move for former Arsenal defender Vermaelen.

The Toffees have struggled defensively for much of the season, but have only conceded one goal in their last two outings.

Vermaelen would face competition from John Stones and Phil Jagielka, who are both likely to remain at Goodison Park this summer.
