Everton captain Coleman: Players happy with Benitez arrival

Everton captain Seamus Coleman says the players have welcomed the appointment of new manager Rafa Benitez.

Benitez's arrival has upset many fans due to his Liverpool links.

But Coleman wrote on evertonfc.com: "We're all eager to impress the new manager and it's a new set of eyes on us. I spoke to him before I came back and he has addressed us all on the training ground.

"We've got to work hard and impress him. It's an exciting time and we're looking forward to it.

"Every new manager brings a new style. As players, especially as you get a bit older, you take note of that more – how managers work and how they are tactically.

"If you're into football, you know what this manager is about. It's another step for us, as a squad, to look forward to and learn from."

He also said: "The manager has won 13 major honours in his career and I think that's exciting for the board, the team and the fans.

"Ultimately, winning silverware is the goal, and that will be the goal for me until I kick my last ball for Everton Football Club. It is something I've said numerous times and I'm sure the fans would rather just see it happen than hear me talking about it every year. But I make no apologies for it.

"There has to be an end goal and the desire to win something at this football club has never faded."
