Everton boss David Moyes says Mikel Arteta is a potential future captain.
Toffees skipper Phil Neville tipped Arteta to lead the club earlier this week.
And Moyes told evertonfc.com: "I think we have seen those qualities in Mikel - he can become a future captain. In Mikel we have someone who has pledged himself to the Club. It was a big decision for him and he now knows that if he wants success at the Club he has to make sure the rest of the players do the same. He needs to drag the team with him.
"The way Phil Neville has done it over the years has been brilliant. He has been a brilliant leader and a great example for the other players who see how hard he works on the training ground.
"Phil came here with great habits from a really good club that taught him that winning was the thing you have to do, not just once but continually. Hopefully, Mikel will have picked up off Phil and Mikel will then take it on in the future if he is ever asked to do the job."
