Everton boss David Moyes refuses to accept they cannot break the top four.
"The gap is there," reflected Moyes.
"People should be hoping someone breaks in because it would alter the whole dynamics of football.
"If it is going to keep being money, money, money, something is going to go wrong in the future."
Moyes also reflected: "We have to hang on to the coat tails of those above.
"Last summer I thought we had a chance. We could not quite get there but we have not fallen away.
"Sometimes you have to persevere as a manager. You don't always have big funds."
