Everton boss Moyes explains his media ban

Everton boss David Moyes has come clean over his media snub after their Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham.

Moyes explained that his media shut-out was not a personal thing; more of an expression of his displeasure at the tournament organisers.

"The point I was trying to make was that the game was moved," he said upon resuming media duties ahead of the clash with Aston Villa. "It would have been simple enough to put the game between Liverpool and Arsenal on the Tuesday night as they had both played on Sunday and it would have been equal for them.

"For us to play Sunday and Tottenham to play on Saturday, gave them an added advantage. So I felt that it was fair for the competition to put us on the Wednesday night.

"But the competition authorities thought that wasn't right. So my reason for not speaking to the press was not because of any bad feeling towards the press. I hoped the message we got over was that we were really disappointed; nobody would listen to our disappointment and our unhappiness about it.

"So the best way we felt was to say nothing and not promote a tournament which wasn't going to make it even for all teams."
