Everton boss Roberto Martinez has dismissed Leighton Baines' sliding stats this season.
Martinez insists his prized full-back should not be judged by the disparity in his statistics compared to the last campaign.
"It's one of those cases when stats can be deceiving and take you in the wrong direction," he told the Liverpool Echo. "An assist is obviously just the person who makes the pass to the person who scores, but Leighton has probably been involved in every move leading up to all our goals. Call it a pre-assist if you like.
"This season his contribution has been very influential too."
