Everton boss Lampard welcomes Coady: A big deal for us

Everton boss Frank Lampard is delighted with their deal for Conor Coady.

The former Wolves defender moved to Everton this week and could make his debut tomorrow at Aston Villa.

Lampard said: "[Injuries] have contributed to our thinking. We have been planning this window for a long time, since I have been here and the back end of last season.

"It is important to do that, but then there are always factors you can't control, like Dominic's [Calvert-Lewin] injury last week going into Chelsea and the two major injuries in the Chelsea game.

"We do have numbers, defensively, in those areas. Conor Coady came in this week, which is a big deal for us. It is up to us to find the priorities and keep the squad as strong as we can have it."

He continued: "I thought it was quite a normal conversation and relatively short. Conor Coady is a player who struck me when I was manager at Chelsea with his voice. He is a quality player and regular in the England squad. I explained what I thought about him as a player and what I'm trying to do at Everton,

"I'm delighted he is here. From the outside you can kind of understand the type of lad he is and you want to work with.

"He has played in a back three and a back four with England, and has been fundamental to Wolves' back three as a player. We know we want to be versatile with our system and he can do both."
