Everton boss Lampard: Gordon no diver; he's like Mount

Everton boss Frank Lampard has rejected claims of Anthony Gordon being a diver.

Gordon was booked for going over too easily in defeat at Liverpool last Sunday.

Lampard said, "I don't think it's the case. Anthony Gordon's booking was the first in his senior career for simulation. That's what I have been told. If you're looking at attacking players in the league, forward players, fast players who change direction very quickly, look at them to see if they change direction.

"Defenders stick a leg out. I think you can go back and find a lot of clips that look very similar to the first-half incident. Whether it's a penalty or not, I'm not going to sit here and say that's a stonewall penalty but there's definitely contact. The second half one is a penalty."

He continued: "The boy is human, Anthony is human. When you know you get across someone and it's a foul, you want a penalty because you care. He loves playing for the club. I feel sorry for Evertonians who travelled to Anfield and have to go for a beer with their friends that are Reds. They know the game was there for us if we go 1-0 up. In the bigger picture it could also affect what happens to us this season.

"Anthony is a great kid, one of the greatest young attitudes I've seen in the game. He's very similar to Mason Mount, in his attitude, his application and his talent levels. He's fine, he's determined, is what he is."
