Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants U23 coach David Unsworth to work closely with him.

The Liverpool Echo says Unsworth has been invited to shadow Carlo Ancelotti one-day per-week at Finch Farm.

Unsworth, who enjoyed a caretaker spell as first-team manager after the sacking of Ronald Koeman in 2017, has been in charge of the U23s for more than five years.

"I have to say he's been brilliant," Unsworth said.

"It's probably the first time I've ever been a coach and been in awe of someone and couldn't wait to meet him. He's brilliant.

"I'm pecking in his ear all the time asking him questions but I have to say the man has been fantastic to us as a staff. We are very lucky to have him, privileged to have him, and it's a privilege to work alongside him."
