EUROPA LEAGUE Ro32: Tottenham earn Fiorentina draw in Italy

Tottenham Hotspur are still in with a great chance of progressing to the next phase of the Europa League.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Fiorentina in a hard-fought affair at the Stadio Artemio Franchi to set up a tantalising Round of 32 second leg clash at White Hart Lane next week.

The visitors opened the scoring eight minutes before the break through Nacer Chadli who converted from the penalty spot.

Spurs were awarded a dubious spot-kick when Ben Davies was brought down under only slight contact from Nenad Tomovic allowing Chadli, with regular penalty-taker Harry Kane on the bench, to step up and send Ciprian Tatarusanu the wrong way.

Fiorentina had earlier spurned a glorious chance when former West Ham United striker Mauro Zarate stabbed wide from close range after Federico Bernardeschi had got it all wrong when attempting to meet Josip Ilicic's cross.

On the stroke of half-time, Zarate again failed to make the most of an opportunity when firing over the bar as La Viola had to settle for being a goal down as they headed for the dressing room.

Early in the second half, Spurs had the ball in the back of the net only for Son Heung-min to be ruled offside when nodding home Christian Eriksen's free-kick before Tatarusanu denied Chadli from an angle.

Just before the hour-mark, Fiorentina drew level when Bernardeschi tried his luck with a long range left-footed effort which took a wicked deflection off the inside of Ryan Mason's boot and looped in over Michel Vorm.

There were few real chances in the remaining half-hour as Mauricio Pochettino's men held out for a handy draw with an away goal that will have them heading back to North London confident of getting the result required to get past Paulo Sousa's side.
