EUROPA LEAGUE: Rangers hold PSV Eindhoven

Rangers have given themselves every chance of moving through to the Europa League quarter-finals after a scoreless draw with PSV Eindhoven tonight. 'Gers managed to hold off the Dutch Eredivisie league leaders at the Philips Stadion with PSV having plenty more shots on goal and looking far more likely to score than their visiting opponents.

Walter Smith sprung a surprise by starting second-choice goalkeeper Neil Alexander, opting to sit Alan McGregor on the bench.

It ended up working to Smith's advantage as his side got a favourable result ahead of the return leg at Ibrox next week.

Rangers were boosted by the return of Kyle Lafferty from tonsillitis, the striker playing 80 minutes, and winger Vladimir Weiss was also back in action after injury, coming on as a 64th minute sub for El-Hadji Diouf.

The Glasgow giants will now prepare for Sunday's league clash with Kilmarnock before meeting Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Co-operative Insurance Final at Hampden Park on March 20.
