Euro2016: West Brom defender Chester not looking too far ahead with Wales

James Chester says it would be careless of the Wales national team if they are to go too far ahead of themselves at Euro2016.

The Dragons beat Russia 3-0 on Monday to clinch top spot in Group B which many critics felt was unachievable prior to the tournament.

Chester only linked up with the Welsh team a couple of years ago and since his inclusion, the mantra has been to take one game at a time, which he feels is the perfect way to look at things as they approach the Round of 16 clash with the third-placed side from Group C or D in Paris on June 25.

"Since I've been here and through the qualifying campaign it was always about the next game and not looking too far ahead," said the 27-year-old West Bromwich Albion centre-back.

"That's put us in good stead so far, so I don't think we'll do any different.

"We'll do our homework on the opposition and approach it the same as we would any other game.

"I've been quite fortunate. I've not experienced the bad times that some of the lads have been through, but I'm well aware of the difficult stages that they've had.

"The lads told me about the low attendances they've had in the past, but the fans have been brilliant since I joined up.

"They've been great through qualifying and coming out to the tournament and helping us get to where we are."
