Euro2016: Portugal deserve more merit - Fernando Santos

Portugal boss Fernando Santos believes his side deserves more credit for making to the Euro2016 final.

The Selecao progressed to Sunday's Paris decider with a 2-0 victory over Wales in the semi-final in Lyon on Wednesday night, marking the first time they have won in 90 minutes in the tournament.

Portugal have been accused of playing a boring style of football, creating few chances, but Santos insists there is much more to his side as evidenced by their victory over the Welsh.

"At some point they will have to say that Portugal had the merit of dismantling our opponents," Santos said.

"They keep saying that merits belong not to Portugal but our (opening group stage) opponents such as Iceland.

"Portugal always have a game plan, an attacking game plan and a defensive game plan.

"We know we aren't the best in the world, but we also know that it will be difficult for anyone to beat us.

"We have been an excellent team on the pitch who are sometimes pleasant to watch and sometimes less pleasant to watch.

"Portugal have done what we have to do, without worrying whether we have been pretty or ugly but instead worrying about whether we have been good or bad."

Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani scored within three minutes of each other early in the second half to send Portugal through to their second Euros final where they will meet the winner of Thursday's France v Germany clash.
