EURO2016: Patient Italy find late winner against Sweden

Italy came closer to topping Group E after snatching a 1-0 victory over Sweden at Stade Municipal in Toulouse.

The match seemed destined to finish in a draw in what was an uninspiring contest, however Eder's 88th minute goal sealed all three points for the Azzuri. The diminutive striker picked up the ball from a Simone Zaza knock down, dribbled past a sea of Swedish defenders and buried the ball past Andreas Isaksson late in the contest.

Sweden started the match lively, seemingly motivated to improve on their unimpressive performance in their previous clash with Republic of Ireland.

It was Italy who showed the first signs of attack, with Alessandro Florenzi breaking into the box, only to have his deflected shot fall directly to Isaksson.

The match proceeded to be a stalemate for the majority of the 90 minutes. Neither goal was threatened until Marco Parolo's header hit the bar after connecting on a fantastic Emanuele Giaccherini cross.

The match came to life when Zaza headed down a long Giorgio Chiellini throw. The ball was picked up by Eder, who burst away with pace past several Swedish defenders and won the match for his country with a sublime finish.

Appeals for a Swedish penalty at the death were correctly waved away by referee Viktor Kassai.

The match almost certainly seals Italy's advancement through to the Round of 16, whilst Sweden must pick themselves up as a must win match against Belgium awaits.
