Albania secured their first win at a major tournament by beating Romania 1-0 at Euro2016 on Sunday night.

Armando Sadiku wrote himself into the Albanian football history books by scoring the nation's debut tournament goal as Gianni Di Biasi's side moved into their place in Group A with an historic victory in Lyon.

Romania, who last lost to Albania in 1948, are the first team to be eliminated from this year's Euros having secured just a solitary point from their draw with Switzerland in their second fixture.

The monumental moment came in the 43rd minute when Ledian Memushaj floated a dangerous ball to the back post which allowed Sadiku to send a well-timed header beyond Ciprian Tatarusanu and inside the opposite upright, sparking emotional scenes on the touchline.

It was a memorable piece of footage that Albania players, coaches and fans alike will be able to look back on with fondness for years to come.

Earlier, Romania had the first good chance of the contest when Albania keeper Etrit Berisha managed to keep out Bogdan Stancu's thunderous volley.

On 23 minutes, Albania should have opened the scoring when Andi Lila sent a lovely low ball into the path of Ermir Lenjani who inexplicably fired over the crossbar from point blank range.

Albania may have had a second when Memushaj fired inches wide just after the hour-mark before Romania came close to equalising when substitute Florin Andone fired into the woodwork.

However, Anghel Iordanescu's Romania were unable to find a leveller as Albania held on for a deserved victory which could see them move into the knockout stage of the competition by virtue of the third-placed rule, depending on the rankings of other teams.
