Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has recounted an interesting story from the last Euros when Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon unsuccessfully saved his penalty.

The Three Lions eventually lost the Euro2012 quarterfinal tie 4-2 on penalties to the Azzurri but Rooney has revealed that he felt Juventus great Buffon would certainly keep out this effort from 12 yards.

Rooney said: "I remember in the last Euros against Italy.

"As I've said, I always know which way I'm going but Buffon was actually pointing in the corner to tell me he knew I was going that way. And he was right!

"So then I started wondering if I should go the other way.

"I ended up sticking to my guns and going the same way - and he dived the other way anyway!"

Rooney is preparing for England's Euro2016 Round of 16 clash wth Iceland in Nice on Monday.
