Austria kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a dominant win over North Macedonia that puts them in a solid position to make it into the tournament's Round of 16.
Franco Foda's men looked sharp on the ball throughout the course of the tie, often making it difficult for North Macedonia to get a hold of possession while also exploiting the flanks.
Stefan Lainer opened the scoring for Austria in the 18th minute after capitalising on a well-crafted cross from Marcel Sabitzer but Austria were only able to hold on to their lead for 10 minutes before Goran Pandev passed the ball into an open net in the 28th minute to bring North Macedonia level.
North Macedonia's equaliser occurred after Austrian shot-stopper Daniel Bachmann got caught up in a collision and let the ball slip onto Pandev's path.
Both teams went into half-time with one goal apiece after an entertaining display of football.
Austria came into the second half guns blazing as they looked to find the back of the net early, but their second goal of the game didn't come until the 78th minute courtesy of a tap-in from Bundesliga winger Micheal Gregoritsch who came on as a substitute for Cristoph Baumgartner just 20 minutes before his goal.
Following Gregoritsch's goal, Austria were poised to secure a 2-1 lead, up until Marko Arnautovic found the back of the net in the 89th minute to put the scoreline at 3-1, thus eliminating any chance of a comeback for North Macedonia.
As things stand, Austria's win has propelled them to the top of group C and offered them a solid advantage going into the rest of their group games, however it remains to be seen if Frank Foda's men will be able to replicate this victory when they face the Netherlands on June 17.
