Etherington: Ex-Stoke boss Pulis brought best out of me

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington has paid tribute to ex-manager Tony Pulis.

Etherington says he played his best football under the Welshman.

He told Soccer AM: "(Pulis) got the best out of me. I played some of my best football under him.

"I was running the top end of 12k a game, which is very high in the Premier League and it's probably why I'm struggling now! It's his fault.

"We had some good players. We had me and Jermaine Pennant on the wings, Kenwyne (Jones) was a handful up front, Glenn Whelan in midfield… decent football players. Sometimes we played a certain way but you've got to win games.

"I had five years at Stoke, five good years, I enjoyed it. I was sad to leave.

"It's a long time in football and I'd had five years at West Ham as well. They're two clubs I have fond memories of.

"Now I've done a bit of work in the media. I love talking to my mates about football and if I have a chance to talk to other people, why not?

"There's no plan at the moment. I've had a few injuries and we'll see what happens. I know what I want to do, if I'm honest … but no comment."
