Espanyol want relegation scrapped

Espanyol want this season's relegation scrapped.

Marca reports Espanyol have asked for relegation to be scrapped in LaLiga this season.

The Catalan side finished bottom of LaLiga Santander this campaign, 12 points off safety.

In a statement released on Monday, Espanyol cited the unfairness of the situation as the reason behind their wish for relegation to be scrapped.

"Circumstances have arisen that have prevented the league from being held in equal conditions for all its participants," reads part of the statement.

Espanyol gave examples of these circumstances as the postponed match between Deportivo and Fuenlabrada in LaLiga SmartBank, the absence of fans from stadiums and the high number of cases of coronavirus in theirs and Valencia's squads during lockdown.
