Espanyol striker Osvaldo flashpoint for Hughes at Fulham

Espanyol striker Dani Osvaldo could have been the flashpoint for Mark Hughes' departure from Fulham.

The Sunday Mirror says Hughes is understood to have travelled extensively in the last two months, scouting young, cheap players who fell within the modest budget he had to work with.

Although Fulham had made a £10million bid for Espanyol striker Pablo Osvaldo, it is understood he would have had to sell players to fund the transfer. In contrast, the likes of Spurs have the funds to meet the Spanish club's £17million valuation.

Keen to actually win things, Hughes - already a wealthy man in his own right - decided to walk away rather than remain frustrated at being able to improve the Fulham squad to the extent he wanted.
