Espanyol complaint against Barcelona for playing Lewandowski rejected

The Spanish Football Federation's Competition Committee has rejected the complaint filed by Espanyol against Barcelona for playing Robert Lewandowski in their derby draw.

The decision has been communicated to the clubs and Espanyol have 10 working days to appeal to the Appeals Committee. They are expected to appeal.

After the game at Camp Nou ended 1-1 on December 31, Espanyol reported Barça for fielding an ineligible player in Lewandowski, who the day before had seen his three-game suspension placed on hold until Barça's appeal received a firm resolution.

The Polish international had been sent off in the previous league game against Osasuna, which was played before the World Cup.

Lewandowksi's ban was eventually upheld and he missed the win at Atletico Madrid last weekend. He will also be suspended against Getafe and Girona later this month.
