Espanyol coach Abelardo Fernandez took the blame for their 1-0 defeat to Osasuna.

Abelardo made a plea to the support after the result on Sunday.

"We never gave the feeling that we could win the game," said Abelardo. "Osasuna can overcome you but we never showed that we wanted to win. (Maybe I should have played) other players who would have left that sensation."

He says survival "is more and more difficult because the distance has grown, but on Sunday we have another 'final' in which we have to come out firing after this."

Abelardo asked the fans "to keep believing in us, we will fight until the end. We can't go back out onto a pitch like this, not me as coach picking the starting XI and not my players for how they came out."
