Former England and Mexico boss Sven-Goran Eriksson will take the reins at Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.

The Swedish tactician was reportedly after a job in England following his stint with African nation Ivory Coast at the World Cup but ahs settled for a one-year deal worth £1.2million ($AUD2.01million).

Eriksson will replace Belgian coach Eric Gerets who is currently in charge of Al Hilal, once their Asian Champions League campaign ends.

Al Hilal have won the Saudi national league in 12 occasions as well as the Saudi King's Cup six times and the Asian Champions League twice.
