England U21s put four past Denmark

Stuart Pearce's England U21 outfit have beaten Denmark 4-0 in Viborg in a friendly this evening.

Goals from Manchester United's Sunderland loanee Danny Welbeck, Swansea City's Scott Sinclair, Chelsea's Bolton star Daniel Sturridge and Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson all scored to end the side's three-match winless run in comprehensive fashion.

After captain Micah Richards went down with a hamstring injury, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling took the armband and his influence caused the U21s to get away to a good start in the 23rd minute when Welbeck struck with a left-footed half volley before Sinclair easily finished from close range after Sturridge's shot was only partially parried away.

It was soon 3-0 when Sturridge got the reward for a solid performance with a well-placed strike just after the hour-mark before Henderson wrapped up proceedings with just over 20 minutes remaining after advancing down the right and finishing neatly.

The match was a warm-up for the final Group B European Championship qualifying game on June 18 against the Czech Republic but before that, England will take on Iceland at Preston North End's Deepdale on Monday.
