England players begin to back Chelsea captain Terry

England players want Chelsea skipper John Terry to be retained as England captain.

The Sun says a poll of senior players revealed the majority still want JT to stay skipper - despite his affair with team-mate Wayne Bridge's former partner.

Some Manchester City aces wore 'Team Bridge' vests on Sunday in support of their pal.

But City's England men were not among them and a 'Team Terry' was starting to emerge last night.

Terry held a heart-to-heart with a senior member of the England management team on Sunday and has not ruled out offering to resign.

The England players will accept whatever Fabio Capello decides - but hope he will forgive and forget.

One said: "John led us to South Africa and he should be the man captaining the side at the finals.

"To change skipper now would be too disruptive and potentially damage the chance we have of doing well."

But the players have sympathy for Bridge as he has been put in a difficult situation not of his making.
