England keeper coach Clemence: Chelsea's Cech lacks confidence

Goalkeeper experts believe Chelsea No1 Petr Cech is suffering from a lack of confidence.

Cech spent three months recovering from surgery and returned to the team wearing a skull cap for increased safety, a comfort blanket for a keeper who always maintained that he would re-establish himself among the world greats.

England goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence said: "It was a bad injury, but there must be a nagging doubt in the back of his mind that he might get another serious one as he is still wearing the head guard.

"No matter how good Cech is, keepers always rely on confidence. If things are not going well then hesitation comes in. It means he can make a decision a split second too late and misses something, as he did with Aurelio's goal. Liverpool put a lot of dangerous balls into the box but the first goal knocked his confidence and it showed."
