England coach Southgate: Maguire suffered at Man Utd because...

England coach Gareth Southgate says Harry Maguire has suffered at Manchester United due to their managerial turmoil.

Southgate has backed Maguire to deliver ahead of England's World Cup last 16 clash with Senegal. Critics had questioned the United captain's inclusion in the 26-man squad before the World Cup.

Reporters made Maguire the focal point of discussion before the last-16 tie and, yet again, his international manager tipped him to step up.

Southgate said: “He's a good player. He knows we have complete belief in him. He's had huge performances.

“He's been a bit unfortunate with changes of managers and philosophies (at Man United) and an injury. He's missed time. But he felt the other night the love of the fans."
