England coach Southgate explains holding back Man Utd fullback Shaw

England coach Gareth Southgate says they decided against playing Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw this past week.

Shaw joined the squad after suffering a concussion last week after defeat to Manchester City.

Southgate has revealed the international clashes against San Marino and Albania came too soon after he suffered a clash with Joao Cancelo last Saturday.

He told reporters on Sunday: "With Mason [Mount] and Luke we ran out of time really, on getting them in with their rehab from the concussion and the operation [Mason Mount's dental surgery."

Shaw is now back with the United squad at Carrington.
