Lewis Dunk was shocked when he received a call up to the England squad.
When James Tarkowski was unable to travel with England due to injury, manager Gareth Southgate turned to Dunk.
And it was his club boss Chris Hughton who first tried to reach him with the good news, according to Dunk.
He revealed to The Argus: "It was Sunday morning. I woke up to a missed call from the manager.
"I was thinking, 'What's he ringing for?' On the voicemail it said, 'Call me back'.
"I rang him back and he told me the good news.
"It's the best news I've had in my career, to be called up to a place like this.
"To finally get recognition and be called into the national team is the best thing that has happened to me."
