Betis piled on the pressure on in the closing stages of the contest, almost stumbling across an equaliser when Karim Rekik's clearance rebounded off a floored Borja Iglesias and headed towards goal. Fortunately for the hosts, Diego Carlos was there to clear off the line.
Nabil Fekir went close with a shot from the edge of the penalty area with the last kick of the game, with the final whistle a source of relief for Julen Lopetegui's team.
Sevilla strengthen their position in the race for Champions League places with the win, six points clear of fifth-place Real Sociedad. Betis remain sixth.
