Empoli have won their relegation six-pointer against Lecce on Monday night 1-0.
Francesco Caputo converted a 62nd-minute penalty to end a four-match losing run and lift Empoli 12 points above the bottom three.
It was a fifth straight defeat for Lecce, leaving them inside the dropzone.
Kickoff was delayed for an hour after a small fire sparked inside the Empoli dressing room due to a short circuit. It was quickly put out, but the teams were evacuated and the fire service arrived to ensure it was safe for the match to go ahead.
Victory was secured by Empoli, despite assistant coach Alberto Bertolini and defender Lorenzo Tonelli being sent off from the bench for dissent in separate incidents.
