Empoli coach Andreazzoli: Maignan made difference for AC Milan

Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli felt they deserved a point after defeat to AC Milan.

Empoli lost 1-0, with Andreazzoli ruing the performance of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

“It was not our plan to be more passive in the first half," Andreazzoli explained to Sky Italia.

“Sometimes it isn't just up to you, but also what the opponents allow you to do. I wanted more precision passing our way out from the back, because that's where we were lacking in the first half.

“I don't know if the atmosphere of the Stadio Meazza affected the players or what, but we were more like ourselves in the second half. If Milan had a 'normal' goalkeeper, we would've scored at least a goal here. Instead, Maignan made a miraculous save and he did the same against us earlier this season, so congratulations to him."

He added: “We always try to play the same way, no matter who the opponent is. It doesn't always work, but my lads come so close to chances and we don't seem to grab them. I maintain we are on the right path and sooner or later there will be a victory.

“If you watched our games, you would not see a team that was lacking hunger. We fight to the end and I never had the sensation the team was resting on its laurels. We receive compliments for our performances, so we can't be doing that badly."
