Ellington regrets leaving Wigan

Nathan Ellington admits he regrets not staying with Wigan Athletic.

Ellington decided to move on to West Brom that summer rather than stay with Latics - a move he must have regretted every day since, after his unhappy time at the Hawthorns was followed by similarly barren spells at Derby, Skoda Xanthi and Watford, says the Wigan Evening Post.

"I have a soft spot for Wigan, of course I do," he said.

"I spent the best years of my career there, and have some fond memories of scoring all the time, of winning the Second Division title and getting promoted to the Premier League.

"I always look out for Wigan's results - even though all the players have changed from my time there.

"I look at all my former clubs' results, but Wigan and Bristol Rovers are the two I really concentrate on.

"It's very possible they'll stay up, and I hope they do."
