Newcastle United are battling to secure Elias Sorensen to a new deal.

The Evening Chronicle says Sorensen remains in discussions with Newcastle over a new contract - despite the fact the first round of talks stalled.

The Danish goalscoring sensation turned down an offer of around £1,800 per week from the Magpies but both parties remain hopeful of a positive outcome.

Sorensen, 19, has been in sensational form this season, scoring 18 goals for the Toon Under-23s.

Sorensen, who could go out on loan in January, has been watched by a host of scouts ahead of the January transfer window, including Hartlepool.
