Elche veteran Fidel Chaves says the players support the club challenging their 4-0 defeat to Barcelona on Saturday.

Elche have lodged a formal complaint claiming Gavi should not have been allowed to play after his first team contract was deregistered by the LaLiga for Barca's financial issues.

Chaves said, "The legal services of the club will fight for us, as always. If they have written that letter, it is because they have considered it appropriate.

"We're not going to get too involved either, because we have other things to manage."

Chaves added: "Relegation is not assumed, but we know that the situation is extreme and we have to win almost every game. We knew that it was a very beautiful and special year for the fans, who deserve that we fight until the end.

"Elche has always risen and will do it again."
