Elche president Joaquín Buitrago has welcomed the appointment of new coach Pablo Machin.

Machin has taken charge of Elche this week.

Buitrago said: "He is a serious and experienced man, with very clear ideas.

"The only thing we hope is that the players know how to acquire his knowledge and the way of playing that he transmits so that it translates into good results."

He also said: “When a market opens, we always try to add. In the summer we already made a significant effort to improve the team. The general comments were that the level of the squad was higher than last year, but we have not managed to get off the ground.

"There is sufficient quality, although any market gives rise to news in the form of signings or departures."
