EL CLASICO: Luis Suarez proves Barcelona matchwinner

Luis Suarez is a the hero of Barcelona after hitting a superb El Clasico winner against Real Madrid tonight.

On the day that former club Liverpool lost at home to Manchester United, Suarez was the man of the moment, producing a top class goal in the second-half to earn Barca a critical 2-1 win .

Barca coach Luis Enrique went with a solid midfield, selecting Javier Mascherano, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta - leaving Sergi Busquets on the bench.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti started the game with Luka Modric in midfield and Iker Casillas was recalled in goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo struck in the first-half for Real Madrid to cancel out Jeremy Mathieu's opener for Barcelona.

Ronaldo connected with a beautiful back-heeled pass from Benzema and put in a low hard shot that the outstretched Claudio Bravo couldn't get a hand to. The Real ace celebrated his goal by facing the home crowd and asking them to take it easy.

Before then, Jeremy Mathieu produced a perfect header on the 18th minute from a free kick taken by Lionel Messi.

The goal came as some relief to the Catalan club, one of the few moves that Luis Enrique's men managed to execute in the first half of the game.

After the break, Barca took control of the game ten minutes on as Uruguayan Suarez latched onto a spectacular ball from Dani Alves to slot home after 56 minutes.

Barça looked the better side in the second half, cutting through the Madrid defence with ease.

Neymar came close on a number of occasions, shooting over the bar after a mazy run from the half-way line before placing his shot wide of Casillas' left-hand post after a pass from Messi.
