The 33-year-old's future has been much discussed in recent months, especially after he tried to leave last summer, but his former Barcelona teammate cannot see the club and player parting company.
"I don't see Messi leaving Barcelona, but we have to really understand what is good for Messi and what is good for the club; they have to come to an agreement," Edmilson told EFE.
"We know he's not the guy he was five years ago. And I always say: every player leaves, every worker of the club leaves, but the club remains. Messi is a guy who has a story; let them make a bust of Messi, say 'thank you Messi' and things will continue. Life is like that. Today we are here, tomorrow we are not. He is a player who is one of the best in history for me, but things happen."
