Dyche rues Burnley wastefulness as Bournemouth secure FA Cup upset

Burnley have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship outfit Bournemouth.

The Cherries, who are without a manager at the moment, are now into the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 1964.

They got there thanks to goals from Sam Surridge and Junior Stanislas.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche followed through with his statement about prioritising the Premier League by naming a much-changed side for the meeting at Turf Moor.

Comically, Dyche had to make a late change when a TV reporter noticed that starting defender Erik Pieters had been booked in the previous two rounds and was therefore suspended.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic denied two great chances from Dwight McNeil and Matej Vydra, before Jay Rodriguez blasted over the bar.

And the hosts were punished for their wastefulness when David Brooks crossed for Surridge to head home the opening goal after 21 minutes.

Surridge was then fouled in the box late on, allowing Stanislas to seal the victory.

And speaking after the game, Dyche lamented his side's poor finishing.

"We were not quite at the races in the first half," Dyche said. "We gave away a soft goal but in the second half we really took the game on, missed a golden chance and from then on we were chasing it really. In the end it was two teams battling out on a scruffy pitch on a scruffy night.

"We've no more injuries, which is a positive in itself, but the feel of the group. There was the underbelly of a performance there and the belief of a group was still there but you have to put your golden chances away."
